Abstract: In the present business environment, there is always a shortage of talented employees, hence business leaders find it a huge challenge to attract, engage and retain talented employees in their organisations. In a knowledge-intensive service industry of information technology, the availability of talented workforce is a crucial resource to operate their business successfully. To sustain and be competitive business organisations, the management has to strategise towards managing their talented resources. The research study deals with the various talent management strategies and understanding their impact on engaging employees at work. The research study was undertaken based on two theoretical frameworks of the resource-based view and social exchange theory. The research is an empirical study undertaken in the Indian IT industry; the research tool was administered to a sample of 554 employees. The data were analysed using SPSS and relationships were tested among the various talent management strategies and their impact on talent management. Talent management model was also developed SEM and AMOS. The results state that employer branding, mentorship and training and development are the main drivers of employee engagement. The employees are keen towards flexibility at work and work culture. Transformational leadership plays an essential role of a moderator in terms of talent development, talent assessment, and talent retention towards employee engagement. The research study has built an empirically tested model of talent management having a positive and significant impact on employee engagement. The research study provides academic and practical insights into the concepts of talent management and employee engagement.
